ABOUT
AMANDA
WATTIE
As a youth, Amanda was an accomplished figure skater. A highly decorated and accomplished athlete, including Central Ontario Skater (COS) of the Year nominee. She shared ice time and was coached by Olympic figure skating competitors and medalists.
Amanda has also risen to success on school sports teams including basketball, volleyball, flag football, and track and field. A free throw champion, forward, and team captain, she was consistently first string on every team.
Dog Agility's a sport Amanda found as an adult and instantly fell in love with. It combines both physical agility and mental strategy which has her hooked.
Shortly after her 1st agility dog, Hershey, became old enough to start competing Amanda suffered a back injury. At her worst, she was unable to feel both legs, used a walker, and dragged both feet when trying to walk. After a successful back surgery and placement of some hardware, she was back to practice within 4 months.
9 months after her back surgery, Amanda completed her 1st ever 5km at Toronto's waterfront in 37 minutes! Shortly after, Winnie had an amazing debut trial. Despite still being a baby dog, he achieved 2nd place twice. Hershey and Amanda had just over a month back practicing together when they placed 1st before going to regionals and celebrating a 6th place run!
2 years after back surgery and getting results that her spine and hardware were officially fused, Amanda and Hershey placed 2nd overall at regionals and went to their first nationals! At nationals, they placed 5th overall, including two 2nd place runs!
Stay tuned for the greatness to come
